May 5, 2022 (Install Day)
Received my package of Carolines, and I couldn’t remember how to open the package, and I should have grabbed a pair of pliers to get the sugar can out. On top of that I already detached the queen cage from the staple so both hands were busy, as it was awfully difficult to hold on to the queen and get the sugar can out. However, after a few minutes I got the can out and a cloud of bees came flying towards my face. I immediately dropped the sugar can and took off running back towards the house, not realizing that I still had the queen in my hand. Now, I am in another panic that I botched the whole thing up. Knowing now that I am fully protected, I run back towards the hive and hurry up and shake the bees in. Couldn’t remember what side the candy was and started pulling the cork from the wrong end! Corrected myself and installed the queen without incident between the frames.
So, Clay Hive has 2 empty 10 Frame Deeps, one queen excluder with a top board on top, with a sugar syrup feeder over the opening of the board, and for added measure a front sugar syrup Feeder. I decide on no entrance reducer.
